I went to the city this weekend and had a really substantially fabulous time for a number of reasons. Observe and be amazed. Times are approximate and likely incorrect. Except for those I was able get off my cell phone. Those are pretty damned precise. Actually now that I think of it, they're gonna get pretty fucking vague once I don't have calls on my cell phone to cheat off of anymore. Whatever. All four of you who actually read this can just deal.
Saturday, 10:25 am: I arrive in the city, a full 40 minutes earlier than my original ETA. I call Jon, who has yet to shower. So I proceed to the fancy art market bit of the fancy farmer's market on the Embarcadero and wander around. Many interesting shiny things.
11:04 am: Jon calls as he has arrived at the market. We meet up and walk around. Shandon has charged us with finding some sort of berries, which we completely fail to do. (All non strawberry-type berries were dehydrated.) Jon gets a lamb sausage (Shandon and I both agree that these are probably 'ew.') and forgets to pay for it until we had walked to the other end of the market and he had finished it, so we go back and give the dudes their money. They are (thankfully) unoffended.
Noonish: We pick up Shandon for some spectacular pizza and walk around to see a few used bookstores. I leaf through some books on Japanese design. One of them has an entire section dedicated to porn. (Poor, poor repressed Japan.) Jon attempts to talk me into buying a used copy of 'Anansi Boys,' but I am trying to be a good girl finance-wise, so I resist his e-vil horse-whispering. After this we go into a truly excellent flower/aquarium shop, which has some really interesting fish in. (My favourites are the fat tricolour goldfish. I am either really boring or entirely too easy to please.)
2 something: Stuff happens.
4 and some change: We see Nightwatch, which is just thirty kinds of spectacular. Oddly enough, my favourite bit is the subtitles. (Really awesome subtitles, people. Just see the damned film.)
5:15 and thirty-two seconds: We drop off Gabe and Ryan. Shandon opts to go to her house as she is going to make delicious cobblers of berries which are delicious. Jon and I head back to his house and drink us some water. We start watching the first season of Red vs Blue.
seven thirty (maybe): Shawn's apartment is just twenty kinds of excellent. This is only punctuated by the fact that they are allowed roof access, and are (therefore) the kings of greater San Francisco. (At least the bits that one can see from their roof, which are honestly a lot of bits.) Shandon's cobbler receives rave reviews. (I opt out because of a stomach-ache which I suffered during a great deal of the party.) The booze and tamales (the latter especially) weren't too shabby either, though I think I freaked out some party guests with my welsh accent a bit near the end. Whoops. (For those of you who don't know, this is just sort of a thing that occurs when I am a certain level of drunk.) A good party in general.
11:32: Jon and I head out as both of us are all partied out. We go home and go to bed like old people.
Sunday, 10:30am: Jon and I get up and shower. Shandon comes over, and we head to get some awesome (cheap) dim sum, and then (at my request) coffee. Ironically, the coffee cost more than my steamed pork bun. (Oh well.)
Noon something: We go back to Jon's house to watch Red vs Blue with Shandon. She sleeps through a lot of it. Jon calls around looking for people to see Ultraviolet with us, but no one seems even vaguely interested.
2:30: We go to the Kabuki theatre in Japantown to see Ultraviolet. Shandon meets up with Nate and the two of them away. Jon and I go into the theatre. He gives me a brief but informative tutorial on how not to suck at Advance Wars. We watch the movie.
4:30ish: Rain pours down the windows of the Kabuki. We leave the theatre and get slightly soggy searching for a Washington Mutual. Then we head back to Japantown proper to get some ramen, which is delicious. Jon and I agree that Ultraviolet wasn't half as bad as rottentomatoes.com made it sound. (Anything with Mila Jovovich kicking ass is fine by me.) Jon finishes my ramen.
5:15 maybe: We go to the fancy supermarket for some fancy avocados and salsa for (fancy) hot dogs later. It is still raining. A lot.
5:30 through 9:45 or so: We get back to Jon's and watch the test of season one of Red vs Blue. Then we watch season two, and then we move on to season three. Jon makes hot dogs, I crush avocados to a fine mash, and we eat fancy designer hot dogs. We stop on episode 13 of season three, vow to finish it at a later date, and make ready for me to leave the city.
10:20: I leave the city. (Much to my chagrin.)
