When I went in to the emergency room, the lady at the desk said I might qualify for charity care, so they they could pay a portion of my bill. I got the forms and filled them out, and got them in as quickly as I could.
I got the bill last week, and have sort of been ignoring it since then, as it was $5,782.60. I was planning on calling them to see if I could make payments instead of just sending them the lump sum, and they have stupid hours (9:00am to 4:00pm), so between my work schedule and having people over for APE, I was having a really hard time getting to talk to someone when their offices were open.
I'm not working until four today, so I called this morning, and gave the lady my account number. She said "That's weird, you have a zero balance. Can you hold for a second?" and I said sure, and so a second later she came back on and explained that my application for charity care was approved, and that they basically wrote off the whole balance. I was floored, and had her repeat that a few times, just so I could be certain I had gotten that right. By the time I hung up the lady was sort of belly-laughing. At this point I was dancing around my apartment. I even went in and jumped on my bed for a few minutes. I called Kingland and told him. He was absolutely ecstatic as well.
HURRAY, GUYS!
